At the event, he delivered a key presentation on “Renewable Energy Solutions & Net-Zero Pathways for Industrial and Urban Development,” sharing practical strategies to help businesses and cities transition towards 100% renewable energy.

Accelerating energy transition in the Lancang-Mekong Region

As the world moves toward Net Zero by 2050, the International Energy Agency (IEA) aims to triple renewable energy capacity to 11,000 GW by 2030. However, current policies are only on track to reach 7,300 GW by 2028, highlighting the urgent need for stronger efforts to meet global energy transition targets.

The Lancang-Mekong region plays a critical role in this transition, with countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and China setting ambitious carbon neutrality commitments. Initiatives like the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) are being implemented to enhance cross-border electricity trade and expand the share of renewable energy.

Net-Zero roadmap and challenges

In his speech at the forum, Mr. An, Pham Dang outlined the driving forces behind the energy transition, emphasizing:

Vietnam’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050, backed by policies such as Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP on greenhouse gas emission reduction and Decree No. 135/2024/ND-CP, which encourages self-produced and self-consumed solar power.

The impact of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), requiring exporters to reduce carbon emissions to maintain competitiveness.

The 2030-2035 period will be pivotal, as global corporations like IKEA, Unilever, and P&G set 100% renewable energy targets, urging regional businesses to adapt quickly to comply with international ESG standards.

The event aims to enhance cross-border electricity trade and expand the share of renewable energy

Renewable energy solutions for businesses

As a leading player in the renewable energy sector, Vu Phong Energy Group introduced effective solutions at the forum to help businesses achieve 100% renewable energy, including:

Zero Capex Solar – A rooftop solar power solution where businesses do not need upfront investment, only paying for electricity usage. After the contract period, the system is transferred with 80-90% guaranteed efficiency.

Combining solar power with International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) – Helping businesses meet ESG standards, reduce Scope 2 emissions, and strengthen their position in the global supply chain.

Additionally, Vu Phong Energy Group collaborates with GIZ (Germany) and EVN (Vietnam) to develop an operation and maintenance (O&M) handbook for rooftop solar systems, ensuring long-term system stability and efficiency optimization.
