The pursuit of carbon neutrality has become a critical global objective, demanding innovative strategies and robust international cooperation. On September 2, 2022, the 2nd Asian Global Solutions Summit, organized by JCI Japan, served as a pivotal platform for leaders across the continent to address this challenge. Delegates from numerous Asian nations, including Japan, Korea, India, Vietnam, and Singapore, convened to share key initiatives aimed at emission reduction and to forge partnerships for a shared goal of sustainable development. This event underscored the region’s collective commitment to combating climate change and advancing green technologies, highlighting the essential role of collaboration in navigating the complex path toward a decarbonized future for Asia and the world.
Held within the framework of the JCI World Congress 2022, the 2nd Asia Global Solutions Summit brought together over 100 JCI leaders and members in a hybrid format. The event facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas among representatives from Japan, Korea, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Australia, all focused on creating actionable Asian solutions for global climate challenges.
Fostering Regional Collaboration for Decarbonization
Under the leadership of JCI Japan National President Tsuchi Nakashima, the summit featured insightful discussions on practical solutions to reduce emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. A keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Nobuo Tanaka, CEO of Tanaka Global and former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). He provided a comprehensive overview of global decarbonization trends and carbon neutrality initiatives, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to meet common environmental objectives.
Following his address, JCI representatives from participating countries presented reports on their respective national strategies and standout projects. This session served as a forum for sharing progress and exchanging ideas, fostering a collaborative spirit aimed at transforming common challenges into shared opportunities for sustainable development.

Vietnam’s Net Zero Journey and Local Initiatives
Mr. Pham Dang An – Deputy General Director of Vu Phong Energy Group, JCI Vietnam Director of Membership, and JCI Asia Pacific Development Council (JCI APDC) Councilor – offered an update on Vietnam’s journey to Net Zero. He highlighted the practical solutions that JCI Vietnam and local businesses are implementing to reduce emissions, protect the environment, and combat climate change. One notable example is the BLUE & GREEN project, which involves planting trees to prevent erosion, treating waste, and promoting environmental awareness. With its message of “Green, Greener, Blue & Green,” the project has already revitalized over four hectares in Go Cong Dong, Tien Giang, benefiting more than 100 households and securing local livelihoods.

A Call for Sustainable Business Networks
Mr. Pham Dang An also discussed the growing adoption of clean energy solutions among Vietnamese manufacturing enterprises to create green products, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He proposed several avenues for collaboration, including strengthening partnerships between Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises to build a regional network of businesses committed to responsible production and sustainable trade. He also advocated for organizing more conferences and webinars to help partners share knowledge and discover innovative practical solutions for businesses.
A Landmark Agreement and Future Outlook
A significant outcome of the summit was the signing of the Joint Statement on Promoting Carbon Neutrality by representatives from JCI India and JCI Japan. This meaningful agreement stands as a testament to the power of bilateral and regional cooperation for advancing the shared global goal of sustainable development. The initiatives and partnerships formed at the JCI Japan Summit are expected to create lasting momentum for climate action across Asia.
