Cooperation to promote carbon neutrality in Asia

On September 2, 2022, at the 2nd Asian Global Solutions Summit organized by JCI Japan, delegates shared many carbon neutrality initiatives in Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, India, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand… and toward cooperation for the common goal of sustainable development.

Within the framework of JCI World Congress 2022, the 2nd Asia Global Solutions Summit was organized by JCI Japan in person combined online with the participation of more than 100 JCI leaders and members from countries in the region such as Japan, Korea, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia…

Under the leadership of JCI Japan National President Tsuchi Nakashima, participants and guests shared, exchanged, and discussed solutions to help reduce emissions, to reach carbon neutrality. Specifically, Mr. Nobuo Tanaka, CEO of Tanaka Global and former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) – presented information about carbon neutrality initiatives, global decarbonization trends, and the need for parties to promote international cooperation toward a common objective. Following that, JCI representatives from each country reported on the carbon neutrality solutions being implemented, as well as the progress of outstanding projects – sharing and exchanging ideas toward working together as a partner, and thus joining hands to find solutions to common challenges related to reducing emissions and achieving sustainable development.

Mr. An, Pham Dang – Deputy General Director of Vu Phong Energy Group; JCI Vietnam Director of Membership; JCI Asia Pacific Development Council (JCI APDC) Councilor – gave a brief update on Vietnam’s journey to Net Zero as well as practical solutions that JCI Vietnam and Vietnamese businesses are implementing in efforts to reduce emissions, protect the environment, and fight climate change. The BLUE & GREEN project, which includes activities such as planting trees to prevent erosion, waste treatment, and spreading environmental awareness… with the message Green, Greener, Blue & Green has now covered more than 4 hectares in Go Cong Dong, Tien Giang, assisting over 100 households and protecting the livelihoods of people in the region.

Mr. An, Pham Dang also shared about clean energy solutions for green products, which is the journey that many manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam are following, as well as JCI Viet Nam’s efforts to connect businesses to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mr. An proposed several solutions for the parties to collaborate for common goals at the conference, such as promoting sustainable cooperation relationships between Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises, as well as all businesses in the region, to build a network of businesses towards sustainable development, responsible production, and trading; continuing to organize conferences, webinars… expand with the participation of partner businesses to update together, share, and find solutions.

Following the conference, representatives from JCI India and JCI Japan signed the Joint Statement on Promoting Carbon Neutrality. This meaningful collaboration demonstrates country cooperation for the shared global goal of sustainable development.
