Vietnam’s solar industry is experiencing rapid growth, but challenges like grid capacity and sustainable development remain. This article analyzes the collaboration between ecoligo and Vu Phong Energy Group, a top photovoltaic contractor in Vietnam, through insights from Mr. Pham Nam Phong, CEO of Vu Phong Energy Group. The piece explores their successful solar projects, core values, and strategies to navigate the evolving renewable energy landscape. By examining their partnership, we uncover practical approaches to scaling solar initiatives and fostering innovation in the region.

Since entering the Vietnamese market in February 2020, ecoligo has found a strong partner in Vu Phong Energy Group, a general contractor and a market leader in Vietnam for the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. This collaboration highlights the growing Vietnam solar market.

The partnership between ecoligo and Vu Phong Energy Group has already led to 16 successful solar projects, all currently in operation. We had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Pham Nam Phong, CEO of Vu Phong Energy Group, to learn more about the company and its position within Vietnam’s dynamic solar landscape.

Hello Mr. Phong Pham. Tell us about Vu Phong: Who started the company? How many people do you employ?

I founded Vu Phong in 2009. Currently, we have approximately 150 core staff working in our head office and nine other branches across Vietnam, alongside about 200 mobilized staff working at solar construction sites.

What makes Vu Phong different from other solar companies in Vietnam?

Vu Phong Energy Group stands apart from most solar companies in Vietnam for two primary reasons. Firstly, since its inception, we have cultivated an extensive network of reliable and innovative partners. Collaborating with them, we aspire to be a market leader in the installation of photovoltaic systems and at the forefront of research and development in solar energy. This deeply ingrained belief in and passion for renewable energy has been part of Vu Phong Energy Group‘s DNA for over a decade, not just since the industry gained government promotion. With this vision, we have established our ecosystem with investors, developers, suppliers, manufacturers, and wholesalers of solar products, enabling us to operate with high reliability, speed, and quality.

The second factor is our commitment to core values that emphasize personnel and integrity. My dedicated team, characterized by high integrity, is the driving force propelling the business forward.

Why does your team enjoy working for you?

From my perspective as a leader, I have always strived to foster the best environment for my team to grow, to understand themselves, and to identify the most suitable career path. This way, they can feel happy coming to work every day, knowing that this is the work they love, they excel at, and their contributions are well recognized. However, this question might be better answered by the team themselves!

Ms. Van Nguyen – CSR: I particularly appreciate the responsibility that comes with my role. Every day, we encounter new challenges and strive to overcome them with innovation and enthusiasm. Furthermore, at Vu Phong Solar, I have continuous opportunities for self-development and professional qualification enhancement.

Ms. Anh Huynh – Human Resources: In no previous company was I as proud of my work as I am at Vu Phong Solar. Here, it is different. Vu Phong Solar feels like a large family where everyone supports each other. Professional development is strongly encouraged, especially through our mentorship program, and the well-being of every team member is paramount.

Mr. Minh Tieu – Sales: I enjoy working here because the atmosphere is very relaxed, and everyone feels comfortable openly communicating their ideas and feelings without hesitation.

What’s the most interesting project you’re working on right now and why?

To be honest, I find all solar projects interesting, as otherwise, I wouldn’t pursue them. That’s a truly difficult question for me. Beyond our commercial solar projects, we also oversee an annual competition for young entrepreneurs at the University of Ho Chi Minh City, where I have served as a coach for five years. As an entrepreneur myself, I am keen to support young people as much as possible, so this is a project I particularly enjoy and find rewarding.

How do you see the solar boom in Vietnam? Will it continue? How will a change in feed-in tariff affect this?

This situation requires a two-sided perspective. On one hand, I greatly welcome the solar boom because it has dramatically shifted the perception of the industry. Where a few years ago solar energy was considered impractical, today you see thousands of factory roofs equipped with solar systems. The future of solar energy shines brighter than ever. On the other hand, we must consider whether such rapid growth is sustainable solar development in Vietnam, given existing limitations such as grid transmission capacity. I would prefer a more phased, step-by-step increase.

What’s the biggest challenge for you?

A significant challenge for us will be maintaining consistently high quality as the company experiences strong growth and an increasing number of orders. However, we are confident that we can keep pace with this rapid development thanks to our extensive experience in the field of solar energy and our robust network of reliable partners.

What’s most important to your customers?

Quality. This is precisely why it is one of our most crucial company values. We have signed contracts for solar projects spanning over 20 years. Only through consistently high quality can these projects achieve long-term success.

How do ecoligo and crowd investors make your business easier?

Ecoligo represents an innovative approach to capital raising, making project financing as efficient as possible. Vietnam boasts numerous small to medium-sized companies with substantial roof areas that present excellent renewable energy investment opportunities. Ecoligo has effectively created a win-win scenario for both investors and businesses, driving solar energy business strategies forward.

How can solar energy help the people of Vietnam?

Solar energy contributes to reducing and better managing electricity costs. Moreover, for individuals who have previously lived without access to electricity, solar energy offers a transformative opportunity, fundamentally changing their quality of life.
