The green transition for businesses is no longer a fleeting trend – it’s a fundamental shift driven by evolving environmental standards, shifting consumer expectations, and global commitments to sustainability. Governments worldwide are implementing policies to reduce emissions and promote eco-friendly practices, making a proactive approach essential for long-term growth and competitiveness. Vietnam’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 exemplifies this accelerating change.

The global push for a green transition is gaining significant momentum, increasingly recognized as a core pathway to sustainable development. This journey extends beyond simple compliance; it’s about unlocking opportunities for a greener future and enhancing a business’s overall resilience, fostering a more secure and responsible future.

Following the COP26 conference in November 2021, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh solidified the nation’s commitment to tackling climate change, with a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This declaration aligned with leaders of nearly 150 other countries, underscoring the global scale of this challenge and the opportunities it presents.

Vietnam, alongside over 100 countries, has pledged to reduce global methane emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Furthermore, a significant number of nations have endorsed the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on forests and land use, and a coalition of countries have committed to transitioning away from coal and toward clean energy sources.

Subsequent conferences, including COP27 (2022) and COP28 (2023), have consistently reinforced the continued advancement of the green transition and demonstrated a dedication to fulfilling these pledges.

Various regulatory mechanisms and trade policies, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), are further accelerating this transition. Leading international corporations are actively participating, as demonstrated by the RE100 initiative, which encourages businesses to commit to 100% renewable energy. This initiative has attracted over 400 members across diverse sectors, including IT, automotive, consumer goods, food, and chemicals.

Transitioning to renewable energy is a critical step for long-term business success and plays a vital role in the green transition.
