On the morning of March 28, 2024, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) organized a program to meet with the community of innovation and creativity in HCMC. Attending the program, Mr. Phong, Pham Nam – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vu Phong Energy Group – along with some experts in the community of innovation and creativity, shared and contributed ideas to collectively build HCMC into the Innovative Entrepreneurship Center with regional and continental influence.

The program was attended by Mr. Nen, Nguyen Van, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee; Mr. Mai, Phan Van, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, Chairman of the HCMC Municipal People’s Committee; leaders of departments and sectors, along with nearly 30 reputable experts and innovative entrepreneurs in Vietnam and HCMC.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC – Mr. Mai, Phan Van, stated that HCMC is being developed to become the innovative entrepreneurship center on the foundation of a regional science and technology hub in ASEAN, aiming towards a continental scale by 2030. With this goal in mind, he hopes that the entrepreneurial innovation community continues to choose the city and accompanies it in contributing to the construction of strategies, policies, ecosystem building, and innovation in HCMC.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC also emphasized that the city’s leadership wants to listen to the innovative and creative community, share and contribute ideas so that HCMC chooses the right focus, the right direction, and invests appropriately to improve the mechanism, policies, and further develop the startup ecosystem and innovation in the city, making it regionally and internationally competitive.

Mr. Phong, Pham Nam emphasized that pioneering green energy conversion and green transportation can be seen as an opportunity for both innovation and aligning with the goals of HCMC and the country to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. However, it requires infrastructure such as electricity sources, transmission grids, charging station networks,… as well as financial resources. Efficient utilization of resources through mechanisms like JETP, involvement of domestic and international strategic investors… will be a solution to help the city transition to green energy and develop green transportation.

During the meeting, alongside Mr. Phong’s sharing about renewable energy and green transportation conversion, experts and innovative startups also shared, contributed ideas, discussed & proposed various issues and solutions to city leaders. These include promoting e-commerce models for small and medium-sized enterprises, traditional markets; investment sources for startups, policies, legal frameworks to attract financial resources for innovation and startups, attracting green finance; attracting strategic investors for innovation to the city, and policies, legal frameworks for strategic investors in innovation and startups…
HCMC is known as a special urban center, a major hub for the country’s economy, culture, education, science and technology, and international integration. The city’s startup and innovation ecosystem is considered the most dynamic in the country. The city has 50% of startups, 40% of incubators and startup support facilities, 44% of investment capital, and 60% of business deals nationwide. HCMC is also the first locality to have special policies on startup and innovation.
